Having spent a year studying marketing, I never believe commercials. We were taught how to lie professionally, and there's a theory that is oft-used for gimmicky products: the bigger the lie, the more believable. So after seeing dozens of commercials for Command hooks, I was skeptical to say the least. I thought there were only two possible situations: 1) they wouldn't stick very well, or 2) they would stick TOO well and damage the wall when removed. I was wrong on both counts, I am happy to say.
I finally broke down and purchased a few of the large hooks - I wanted to have a place to hang my headphones when not in use, as well as to run some cables behind my desk. Following the directions, I cleaned the area where I was going to stick them, allowed it to dry fully, then pressed these on, holding down for some time. Again, though not wanting to, I followed the directions and didn't hang anything on the hooks for a good hour. After the full hour, I gave a little tug on each hook to make sure they were well placed - I am glad to say that everything was more solid than I expected! My headphones and the four or five cables would be NO problem, and I suspect these could take a lot more weight without an issue.
Finally I decided that one hook was in the wrong place, a good excuse to test removal. I pull the tab, stretching as directed and the whole thing came off of a painted wall without any damage or residue. I was beyond pleased, simply because this was, in my mind, the more likely of the two situations I had first imagined.
Overall I'm not hanging heavy items with these, and I'm not sure I would trust them with anything really valuable. For my application (and countless others, I'm sure) they are absolutely perfect, and I will be purchasing a few more packages to use around the office. Definitely recommended as an inexpensive and reliable way to decorate and organize!
