This magnetic door holder/stop is extremely strong. It is way stronger than what I need for my bathroom door that occasionally closes itself. It comes in two pieces, a small cup and a long tapered rod that contacts that cup. It does act as a door stopper to keep the door from opening too far and contacting the wall and it has very strong magnet in the head in the long rod that holds fast to the cup to keep the door open until you want to close it. Both pieces have a nice brushed satin finish that matches nicely with my brushed nickel finish hinges and doorknobs with the exception of the cup itself which has a shinier chrome finish and the disk magnet which has a matte metal finish. It comes with the hardware needed to install it including hollow wall anchors and screws and also a single masonry anchor that can be used. The smaller cup side has a metal plate with two fasteners and a threaded rod that you screw the main body into. The larger tapered rod uses 3 fasteners and also has a threaded rod that connects to the device. If you use the masonry anchor you would use that in place of the fasteners in the plate to thread into the cup or post. In use it would make the most sense to attach the cup to the door and attach the rod to either the floor, wall or baseboard. For my bathroom where I wanted to be able to use it the magnet is just too strong for me to use. I am a bit nervous about the force needed to separate the two devices on a hollow core door but the wall in my bathroom is unreinforced adobe block (pressed clay and sand with water that are left to dry in the sun) and they don’t offer significant holding for fasteners. My best guess is that the one that I have requires greater than a 50lb pull to separate the two pieces, and I don’t feel comfortable mounting the long rod to either the door or the wall based on the amount of leverage it could see. It would work great mounted into the concrete floor, however I did not plan ahead for this type of stop and I would have to drill a hole in the tile and hope not to damage the in floor heat mat so I will look for another use for this as it is a very nice piece and actually more robust than I had hoped it would be. I would be very confident using this with a solid wood or metal door even in windy conditions. I received this item at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
